Q. What is the process to begin working with you?

A. Generally, the first step I ask is that you review my galleries/website to ensure that my style, technique, and package pricing are what your event requires. If this step has been considered, then either via website or contacting me directly, please contact me as soon as possible to ensure that the date you need is available. At which point, we can also schedule a free consultation to discuss your session requirements.

Q. What is discussed within your free consultation?

A. The free consultation can either be via phone, email/online chat, or in person. Depending on the session package you are requesting, it can last a few minutes to one hour. We will confirm scheduling, venue location, clothing options, props and accessory ideas, etc. If your venue or environment is important to the style of the session, i.e. for a wedding, it is preferred to meet on location, as I feel it is just as important to learn about the venue as it is to learn about you and your specific session needs. Please visit the Wedding FAQ page for more information.

Q. When should I schedule?

A. The simplest and most honest answer is, as soon as possible! If you need your session to happen on or by a specific date and time because it is for an important event or special occasion, the only way to guarantee that I will be available is to contact me as early as possible. If you need the photographs returned by a specific date and time, you should book your session with enough time for processing and return. My availability can change daily.
-Maternity and newborn sessions have special scheduling needs. Please read over the Maternity FAQ for more direct tips.

Q. What is your general style of photography?

A. Natural and candid. I am able to work in a variety of locations, but within that, I hope to capture you, your family, your band, or your event in the moment and as they are. I feel that the more genuine the moment, the better your pictures will be and the more you will treasure the memories in years to come. When it is possible, I prefer to work with natural lighting because it brings a beauty to the moment that a light bulb just can't replicate. Regardless of my preferences, I am here to serve you and your photography needs and am able to accommodate and adapt to many scenarios and scenes. Just let me know the look and feel you are aiming for while we are booking your session and I will make it happen.

Q. Can you provide references?

A. Yes! Most definitively. I maintain a client list with testimonials and when we meet to discuss your event or individual session I can provide the testimonials portfolio if you would like to review it or you can review my online testimonials from a wide range of clients.

Q. Do you have a studio?

A. No. A private / personally owned studio is not available at this time. If one is needed to ensure studio lighting, background, or weather variables are all optimal, we can rent one at a very reasonable rate in a variety of locations, styles, and environments.

Q. Where will my session take place?

A. We are fortunate to live in an area that offers us a wide variety of places and options: from your home to a local park; or scenic overlooks, beaches, and shorelines; to tourist locations and historical landmarks; old building exteriors or inside a luxurious suite, if you can picture it - I can capture it. If you have setting ideas in mind, please let me know as we are booking your session.

If you are looking for ideas to hold your session, I would be happy to share a list of frequently requested locations. Even though I am always on the look out for new and interesting places to be session backdrops, I am just as happy to revisit a location I am well acquainted with. However, please be aware that outdoor sessions / in natural light are subject to availability and are weather permitting. For the best lighting, it is recommended that they be scheduled in the mornings or afternoon hours. If a night or sunset shoot is needed or preferred, please specify this while we are scheduling your session.

Q. This is my first professional portrait session ever, can you offer me any advice to prepare?

A. The most direct advice I can give to anyone, no matter what their session type, is just to stay relaxed and have fun with it, it actually goes more smoothly if everyone is having a good time, and I feel the shots come out better in the end, too!

Q. What should I/we wear?

A. Overall, you should wear whatever you would like and what makes you feel comfortable. After all, this is your session and your moment we are capturing. If, however, you are looking for helpful hints and suggestions to get the most out of your shoot, then here are some general tips to keep in mind. First, decide on the portrait style you want to capture - clean and classic, fun and modern, casual or formal. Is there a theme, era, feel or vibe are you trying to capture? You should pick garments that represent your personality, interests, or style. This may mean wearing bright, vivid clothing or soft pastels. Regardless of your style choices, I also recommend mostly solid colors that do not blend in with your background too easily. Depending on your setting, it might be wise to avoid plaids, bold stripes, or large logos as they can be distracting and may make your photos appear "too busy." (The exception to this, of course, is if you would like to include uniforms or organizational affiliated attire.) If you want a more formal session, then you might try dressier outfits that coordinate to a similar setting.

In short, just keep in mind when you dress for the shoot what your backdrops will be and the time of the session. If you arrive to a sunset shoot wearing a red shirt (after you acquired a sunburn that day,) with red flowers as props, and then stand by a red brick building, it is really going to change the mood, feel, and tone of the shots, regardless of the intended theme of your session.
-If you are booking a family session, and it is the unity theme you wish to capture, please make sure everyone is wearing similar colors and styles, and keep jewelry and accessories to a minimal.
-If you would like to include props such as instruments, trophies, flags and banners, crafts, flowers, or food, please mention this while we are scheduling your session.
-If you would like to include animals in your session, please mention this while we are scheduling your session.

Q. Do you charge extra for outfit changes?

A. No, I do not. But, please keep in mind that if we are under a time restriction to acquire the shots, you should pick clothing that is easy to change into.

Q. Do you provide hair and makeup for my session?

A. Not as of yet. I do not have an 'in-house stylist' in reserve. But, if you would like, I can provide you with a list of recommended stylists that you can schedule appointments with, prior to the photo shoot.

Q. I have a lot of skin blemishes, can they be edited out?

A. At your request, I can try* to remove any skin blemishes to images that will be included to your package. There is an additional charge to remove skin blemishes on extra images not covered by the package price.

*It is my goal to edit or remove, reduce, or minimize things that you don't want to show or make you feel uncomfortable. I use a variety of techniques to achieve this, but I do not want your images to look unnatural or unhealthy. Even though there is a high success rate of such edits, please keep in mind that these edits can be just as unique as the photo-shoot. As such, I can not guarantee that the outcome of adjustments will succeed in the way that we hope. Prior to your session, please be sure to discuss any concerns you may have for your final images with me prior to the shoot and we will discuss options. Since everyone's adjustment needs can be different, so too are your options and decisions of how to proceed.

Q. My son/daughter has trouble holding still and I am worried about how the photos will come out. Is there something I can do?

A. Unlike conservative, in-and-out photography studios, I firmly believe in capturing the real moment, and within that moment letting you and your child be yourselves. Adapting to your child's needs and personality is what allows me to truly capture the memories that you will treasure the most. Let's leave the fake poses and false smiles for their school photographers - what I want to provide for you are images that truly express your child in his or her element. If, however, you are still worried that nothing from your session will turn out as you would hope, please voice your concern as we schedule your session. A second photographer who has a long history of working with children of all ages, can be made available, free of charge.

Q.I would like to schedule a family shoot, but my place is small and dark, can we still have my session here?

A.Yes. I can usually work within whatever space you may have. If, however, there are a lot of members of your family and your end goal is to acquire group shots of everyone, an option we have is we can use your yard instead to grab some of the pictures. But, my honest advice is, if you are truly worried about the space/setting, I recommend considering having your session at a local park, or reserving a private room at a restaurant or venue hall.

Q. Would you let me take photos with my pet/animals?

A. It depends on the temperament and size of the pet/animal. Also, if there is somebody else who comes along that will be able to stay with your pet to supervise them while we take pictures that don’t include them. Please contact me directly to discuss available options.

Q. Can I bring props?

A. Yes, feel free to bring anything you want included in your pictures. Common items include: instruments, trophies and awards, flags and banners, crafts, hammocks or chairs, flowers, food, etc. Please mention the idea or the inclusion of a specific item while we are scheduling your session.

Q. How far are you willing to travel for photos?

A. I am willing to travel to any point you need me. Anything over 25 miles in one direction is subject to an additional fee for travel. If the destination is greater than 50 miles, please contact me via the contact page or by email to discuss a customized package and pricing.

Q. What if it rains?

A. We have two options if you were scheduled for an outdoor session and conditions are less than desirable. First, you can change the shoot to an indoor location. Great indoor options are your favorite restaurant, cafe, or ice cream shop, a nearby museum or college campus, and even your home. Please have a back up location considered while we are scheduling your outdoor session. Please check ahead of time that the indoor location allows photographers and the possible use of flash. The second option you have is we can reschedule your session for a new date. It is usually possible to reschedule to a time within two weeks of the original date. If you would like to cancel the session entirely, and you have paid a deposit, it must be canceled no later than 14 days in advance to avoid a charge.

Q. Do you require a deposit?

A. Yes, depending on your session package, special requirements, or location. Each package requiring a deposit amount / percent already has it listed with the package, which can be found on the "Session Details & Pricing" link, located on the side bar menu of my website. However, if there is travel involved, I require an additional 40% non-refundable deposit or $50, which ever is greater. If you want to book further than 2-3 months ahead of the session's date, I only require a 20% non-refundable deposit.

Q. How much do you charge?

A. I currently offer several packages or you can hire me by the venue/event. If it is a large event I can provide a second seasoned professional photographer. I am able to customize my packages to fit your needs. If you do not see a package that fits within your ideal parameters, please contact me via the contact page or by email to discuss a customized package and pricing. Once a package is chosen to fit your needs, there will never be any hidden additional costs. However, after a package is confirmed, if you chose additional options from the "Other Services" or other customized requests, the cost of each service will be separate and in addition to the originally negotiated price.

Q. When and how can I pay for my session?

A. A non-refundable deposit may be required to secure your session's date and time. Session deposits vary and will depend on the type of session you are scheduling. You can make your deposit payment with any major credit card, debit card with credit card logo, or your PayPal account, money order or cash in person. The remaining balance can be paid by credit card, debit card with a credit card logo, your PayPal account, and money order or cash in person.

Q. Would you allow me to make payments for the photos?

A. Yes, payment plans are available, but if there is a deposit required for your session package, the deposit fee must be fulfilled before the day and time of your session. You must also be able to pay the difference in sum to 50% of your session cost by the time of the session. When your images are submitted to your private gallery page, my logo will be across the middle of the images. Once the balance has been paid in full, your photos will be resubmitted to your gallery page with the smaller watermark located in the corner of each photograph.

Q. Does your prices include prints?

A. No, it does not. You can purchase photo prints through my website from the gallery where your images will be located. I will provide you a disc containing your images, free of charge, which you can then take to any Walmart, Walgreen's, or similar print shop to have them processed if you prefer.

Q. What is your turn over time for the processed images?

A. You will begin to see your first proofs in your online gallery normally between 24-72 hours. However, the standard gallery processing time for your entire online gallery will be within 5 business days from the day of your session. During this time, the images from your session will be reviewed personally to ensure the best ones from the shoot are chosen for processing. Once the images have been chosen, the images will be digitally retouched and edited using a variety of techniques to achieve the look and mood that was aimed for within the shot or session. The process of batch editing will not be used on the images, as this ensures each image of your gallery has been properly Processed By Examination. Rush processing is available for an additional fee, which will reserve my time for at least one full editing day following the session. This ensures that your images still get the quality editing and attention to detail found with the standard processing time.

Q. How will I be able to see my pictures and how many will there be?

A. Within 24-72 hours after your session, you will be sent an email containing a link to your private gallery and a password to access it. At which time, you will also begin to see submissions to your gallery. Once the entire viewing gallery is ready, you will receive a follow-up email confirming that all submissions have been uploaded, along with a link to your private gallery and your password to access it. Every photo-shoot is different, as is every package available. It is difficult to foretell the exact number of shots that will be within the resulting gallery, unless otherwise dictated by a set package guideline. If the package has an open ended requirement of shots, as a general rule of thumb, I usually advice people to expect the ratio of at least twenty professionally edited images for every hour of the session's time. You may end up with more, and usually do, but you will never have less.

Q. My pictures are for a special occasion. Is there any way to speed up the process of getting my pictures back?

A.Rush processing is available for an additional fee, which will reserve my time for at least one full day of editing following the session. This ensures that your images still get the quality editing and attention to detail found with the standard processing time. There are two rush processing options to choose from that can get your pictures back to you as soon as 24 or 48 hours from the session's end time.

Q. Can my friends and family order prints and photo gifts too?

A. Yes, absolutely! You may share your gallery link and password with whom ever you choose and they will be able to order prints and other items directly from my website. If they are looking for a specific image that did not make the culling process, please have them contact me directly via the contact page or by email to discuss the image in question / adding it to the gallery.

Q. Do I get all the digital files of images you took?

A. No, you are only given the ones I deem to be worthy of representing my name and logo. Not every photo taken deserves to be shown.

Q. If I wanted to do the post production myself could I get a discount?

A. Unfortunately, no. I like to have control of what images bare my logo and name. In this perspective, I feel it an impossible task for someone else to know and decide what I consider worthy enough to make the culling process.

Q. Why do all my images carry your watermark in the corner?

A. Part of the reason I am able to offer such affordable rates is my watermark becomes my advertisement to your friends and family. The watermark is small and will be placed in a subjectively discrete corner of your image.

Q. Can you leave your watermark off if I choose?

A. Yes, for an additional fee, the watermark can be left off. Details and pricing can be found through the "Other Services" link located on the side bar menu of my website.

Q. My family is / I am looking for a specific shot you might have captured, but I do not see it in my image gallery. Can I request it?

A. Not all shots come out the way we hope, even with the best planning or preparation. Something odd can be in the background, or not everyone is looking the same direction, and many other variables could have prevented it from making the cut. But, there is always a chance it was just left out because another image was better suited to take its place in your gallery. If they are looking for a specific image that did not make the culling process, please contact me directly via the contact page or by email to discuss the image in question / adding it to the gallery.

Q. Do you ever run specials?

A. I price my photography so that you are always given a discount. If you shop around for prices, you will find I am beyond fair at my current rates.

Q. Do you have a referral program?

A. Yes! For every paying customer you send me, I will give you 20% off your next session. This can stack, i.e. 3 referrals = 60% off. Have your friends and family let me know that you referred them and upon receiving their session being paid in full, I will credit your account with a 20% stack-able credit. Use your discount or accumulate them towards a session disc, photo books, or other photography packages. Your name must be mentioned during scheduling to receive the referral bonus. Then just let us know when you are ready to redeem and I'll send over your coupon code.

Q. Are you willing to do TFP (Trade for Photos) / barter materials for sessions?

A. Absolutely! I am open to bartering within the Seattle/Tacoma area community. At this time, based on how this barter system works, this service is only available to the residents of the state of Washington. If you will be visiting Washington and feel that you have a barter offer worthy of attention, please feel free to email me. Requests are generally answered within 1-2 business days of receiving the submission.
